Flash mobs, lynch mobs, gang violence, drive-by shootings, random murders and rape are all evidence of less-evolved individuals. Add to this roiling pot of venomous snakes a pinch of race, and you have the ingredients for social inertia, and an unwillingness to examine history, admit our own failings, as well as those of our ancestors. The pain and anger will not stop for black people until they admit it hurts to live in a country where you were bred, raped, murdered and treated as chattel. Further humiliation is that every other ethnic group in our society knows that awful truth and may feel innately superior. But with that admission, perhaps there can be some healing and moving forward. The pain for whites will not stop if they think history doesn't matter and that the instinctive fear of and reticence to engage black people does not have a historical basis. Jews tell each other "Never forget," but blacks are told to just get over it. Neither will likely happen. While there are no justifications for violence against innocent victims, there are reasons, often unpleasant ones, and acknowledging them for any victims of trauma is a start. We see the results of our failure to do so, daily.
